Top 5 Film & Television Apps in Nigeria: Q3 2021 Performance

The third quarter of 2021 saw notable activity in the Film & Television app category in Nigeria, with significant trends in downloads, active users, and revenue. Here’s a closer look at the performance of the top 5 apps: Showmax, Netflix, MyGOtv, MyDStv Africa, and DStv Stream.

Showmax saw a substantial rise in weekly downloads, peaking at approximately 86.6K in the last week of September. Active users mirrored this trend, increasing from around 216K at the beginning of the quarter to over 333K by the end. Despite the growth in user engagement, the app did not generate any revenue during this period.

Netflix maintained a steady flow of weekly downloads, with numbers reaching up to 61.5K in late August. Weekly revenue showed fluctuations, peaking at around $612 in early July and $601 in early September. Active users remained robust, rising from approximately 618K to 691K over the quarter.

MyGOtv experienced a gradual increase in weekly downloads, hitting a high of roughly 40K in late August. Active users grew from 102K to nearly 145K by the end of September, indicating a solid user base expansion over the quarter.

MyDStv Africa also saw a significant rise in downloads, peaking at around 39K in late September. Active users followed a similar pattern, increasing from 162K to nearly 238K. The app did not report any revenue during this period.

DStv Stream experienced a consistent increase in active users, growing from approximately 312K to 329K. Weekly downloads peaked at around 31K in late July but saw a decline towards the end of the quarter. Like some other apps in this category, it did not generate any revenue during Q3 2021.
